Muskies, Party of Five.
You may have heard me mention that I’m planning to rock the Akron Marathon relay with 4 other lovely gals. Not just any lovely girls though, all MUSKINGUM GIRLS! So pretty much the best girls in the world. T-shirts don’t lie…
So, let’s meet ‘em shall we?!
Meet ‘Lights Out Stout’! Class of 2006!
Molly is from Fredericktown, OH and currently hangs her running shoes in Worthington, OH! She’s been running since she could tie her shoes and never looked back. Her guilty pleasures are Starbucks and massages. Besides running she enjoys the outdoors as much as possible, whether it be walking, cycling, yoga, hiking, kayaking, etc. Nothing makes her feel more alive, free and myself than being out in mother nature breaking a sweat. She also strongly enjoys playing Scrabble.
I hated my life at the University of Toledo my freshman year and needed to get out desperately. I had been recruited to run XC and Track at Muskingum during my senior year of high school and decided to check it out when I was looking for a school to transfer to. My dad took me to campus and it was love at first sight.
Her fav Muskie Memory…
Homecoming weekend the year I lived in 1-5-8, Relay for Life 2005, 21st Birthdays of both Abby Smith & Tara Funk. Woodstock 2005, "Best Night in Television" at 1-5-8, so many others! Hard to choose just one!
K-I-S-S-I-N-G… the first Muskie makeout!
His nickname was Cash. Oy vey. What can I say, I know how to keep it classy.
What’d she say to anyone considering Muskingum…
Choosing Muskingum was one of the best decisions of my life, it is truly a magical place that will give you the greatest of college experiences if you give it the chance.
Meet JP! Class of 2003!
Jen is from Lakewood, Ohio and currently kicks it in Kettering, Ohio. She’s just started running 3 years ago and enjoys races… especially relay races and the team spirit! Her guilty pleasures are fried cheese, chicken, potatoes and she has a huge crush on Oreos. She also loves TLC reality TV. Besides running she loves keeping busy with her paper crafting. (Lilly Pea Designs!!!)
Muskingum first attracted me for two reasons: it was smaller than my high school and it offered a lot of majors in subjects I was interested about. Then I went to visit good ol’ New Concord and fell in love with the campus (and became immediately curious what was up with the girls wearing purple & gold XAN letters). My mind I was made up Muskingum-or bust! Thankfully the acceptance letter came.
Her fav Muskie Memory…
I had way too many fun times at Muskingum to narrow down which one might be my favorite or even appropriate to share on the web but one memory of Muskingum that I will never forget is campus in the fall. The rich colored leaves, homecoming, football games, bonfires, late nights on the decks of Frat Circle.. I think my love for autumn developed during my years at MC (now MU- crazy!)
K-I-S-S-I-N-G… the first Muskie makeout!
Umm… I think it was Charlie Amlin- he was the first boy I dated at Muskingum.
What’d she say to anyone considering Muskingum…
DO IT! You won’t regret it, I promise!
And if you do go, enjoy every single day. Even if it’s exam week. You only get this experience once.
Meet J-Sizzle (I just made that up, sorry Jess)! Class of 2006!
Jessica is from Champion, Ohio and currently reps Columbus, Ohio. She’s been running since 2006 and hasn’t looked back! She’s looking forward to hanging out with Muskie gals she never got a chance to hang with when we were all at Muskingum. Her guilty pleasure is mashed potatoes. Besides running she loves sewing (and she even makes badass t-shirt quilts!).
I had played travel softball since I was 12 years old and the summer between junior and senior year in HS I played on a team with a girl who was going to Muskingum to play collegiately. She had told me that their softball team was phenomenal, they had a badass coach and they had won the Division 3 World Series that spring. Being a super competitive person, my interest was immediately perked and so my parents and I scheduled a visit to go check out the campus. If you’ve ever been there you would know why we all instantly fell in love.
Her fav Muskie Memory…
A LOT happened my sophomore year in college. I roomed with 2 amazing women, met a fantastic guy that I ended up spending 5 years of my life with, joined a sorority, broke my nose, switched majors, made new friends, placed 4th in the country in softball. I would go back to that year in a heartbeat.
K-I-S-S-I-N-G… the first Muskie makeout!
HA! I am keeping this one to myself. (editors note: LAME)
What’d she say to anyone considering Muskingum…
DO it. You will never regret it.
Meet ‘Masher’! Class of 2009!
Chelsea is from Avon, OH and currently rocks out in Westlake, OH! She’s been running since the 6th grade! She’s looking forward to showing everyone our Muskie Pride! Her guilty pleasure is Bachelor/Bachelorette and the Real Housewives on Bravo. Besides running she likes her road bike & scrapbooking!
I ended up at Muskingum because I was looking for a small division 3 school where I could run cross country and track. As soon as I came over the hill on 83, I fell in love with the school and knew I’d spend the next 4 years there. Love at first sight!
Her fav Muskie Memory…
The cross country team took a camping trip right before my sophomore year. We got lost in the trails, attacked by bats, and saw 14 shooting stars. It was one of the most amazing times with some of the greatest Muskies I’ve met.
K-I-S-S-I-N-G… the first Muskie makeout!
Ryan Sopko. We met at the scholarship day and started dating the summer before we came to Muskingum.
What’d she say to anyone considering Muskingum…
Go for it! It’s a small school where everyone knows everyone, where you find great friends for life. Muskingum is full of small quirks that make it a great experience. Take advantage of everything you do. It goes by quickly, so don’t regret anything.
And well, you know me but I will answer a few questions too…
I ended up at Muskingum after my friend’s mom who was my math teacher recommended I check it out. (She was an alumni.) Her daughter who was a good friend to me and was a year older was attending school there. My parents & I visited and LOVED it. I visited Lori overnight and LOVED it even more. Then I started talking to the cross country coach and the deal was sealed.
My favorite Muskie memory…
Gah, so many. Nights in the ‘party palace’ and 158 with my roomies. Parties at the Sig house. Footballs games cheering on Mike and parties at depot. Hours spent at the PR and newspaper offices. My radio show with Abby.
K-I-S-S-I-N-G… the first Muskie makeout!
Coach Dave. (Don’t worry, he was a student coach.) And it was on my overnight visit when I was a senior. REBEL.
What I’d say to anyone considering Muskingum…
BEST THING YOU’LL EVER DO.
ALL HAIL MUSKINGUM, GLORIOUS ALMA MATER!

Very cute post! Sounds like a smaller school where you actually know other people!
I had no idea MB was from F-Town. Sending this link to one of my close friends who is also from there. It’s a really small town. Maybe they know each other.
