2013 Race Schedule

By: kiwi
Published on: January 1st, 2013

As I declared the other day, a tad more focus on running in 2013 is the plan. 2012 wasn’t too shabby but after June I realllllllly dropped off the running train for most of the rest of the year. I’m still currently in low low low mileage running mode and am spending more time on the elliptical and bike but am ramping up the running soon. And nothing motivates me like a race scheduled staring me in the face.

I put a lot of races (for me) on the list, I don’t plan to run them all. Trying to keep my options open.

So without further ado, the 2013 tentative race schedule, bold being more firm than not.

March 16, 2013 – St. Malachi 5-Miler

April 21, 2013 – Earth Day Challenge Half Marathon

May 18, 2013 – Hy-5K

May 26?, 2013 – Tri for Joe at Coney Island Duathlon

June 15, 2013 – Fish Festival 5K

June 22, 2013 – Soul to Sole 5K

July 7?, 2013 – Lorain Duathlon

August 18?, 2013 – Vermilion Harbor Duathlon

September 28, 2013 – Voices for Recovery 5K

The focus in the spring with be the Earth Day half. I’m going to be drafting up my training plan today! Excitement!

Any races on tap for you? Any awesome local races I missed here?

In similar fashion to 2011 and 2012 I’m setting myself some annual goals. I like the idea of goals rather than resolutions for me personally. I’m pretty jazzed about these as well. Let’s rock 2013!

Continue with 2013’s goal of better skin care. Also add in better hair care. I loved this goal last year and felt I definitely did better than I ever had. I want to keep down that path and continue to improve. I’ve kept the tanning bed urge at bay in 2012 and hope to continue to do so in 2013. Another recent addition to my regime is dry brushing and more regular use of all-over scrubs. I don’t want to limit great skin care only to my face.

Another new addition in 2012 was somewhat more regular manicures which has been good for my cuticles! And I’m newly on the biotin supplement train so I hope it helps bring out the best in my hair and nails!

Keep on sweatin’. Again, somewhat of a repeat of last year! I want to keep up on my gym visits (which have been stellar lately) and keep on runnin’ too. 2012 wasn’t a huge year for running and not that I have any big full mary plans in 2013 I do want to focus a tad more on running compared to 2012. This includes a half mary PR at my spring half. Check back later this week for the 2013 race schedule!

Organize. I have written out 52 notecards containing some sort of cleaning/organizing/purging activity relating to our home, running of our household, finances, etc. I have really felt like the general clutter of life has been closing in lately. Could be all those new Christmas gifts that don’t have homes yet. Each week-ish I’ll pick on out and go for it. Some weeks I might tackle a few, some weeks I might tackle none. Let’s just hope I can tackle them all by the end of 2013!

And here’s the doozy of my goals. The one that might be the hardest for me personally…

Clothing spending freeze until May 1st, 2013. (Not so coincidentally my 30th birthday). I looooooooove clothes, you guys. But honestly I have a closet bursting at the seams and lots of things I don’t even wear. It’s time to get creative, save some cash and start figuring out what clothing I really want/need rather than splurging on all the latest fashions.

Well, here we go! What are your 2013 goals?

Crushing goals and stuff

I thought I’d get a jump start on recapping my 2012 goals. And I did a half way there recap as well.

Sweat – Crushed this goal for the most part. I did race a half mary, albeit a miserable one. I had fun doing my own thing most of the year running when I wanted and not running when I didn’t want to. I did not bike as much as I had hoped though which does make me a tad sad. I also joined a gym for the first time ever!

Do Work – Crushed. I started the year at a job I loved and am ending at a new job which I love even more. Going to work every day is a joy and I feel like there is so much ahead.

Misc – Crushed! I have spent lots of time with Mike & Miles and had a great time. Travel was good. A few trips here and there! Golf… major fail. And it makes me sad. I really miss it.

I haven’t really thought through my 2013 goals yet, but I’m sure they will be coming together soon! 2012 was a GREAT YEAR!

Just as I did last year I wanted to post my halfway there progress on my 2012 goals.

Sweat!

I said I wanted to run a half marathon since I skipped over that race distance in 2011. CHECK!

Run, Bike and Have Fun! CHECK! I’m definitely not running as much as I did in 2011 but I’m still running here and there, biking, taking spin classes and definitely having a whole lot of fun cruising around town on bikes with the boys, chasing Miles around the back yard and splashing in the pool.

Get down to my goal weight. Not yet! I’m still working on this. It’s a regular struggle and I’m hoping it can all click soon. It’s definitely taking a front seat as my trip to vegas is only 30 odd days away!

Do work!

I said I wanted to work hard and accomplish a lot of things at my job. Well, this isn’t really a check or not a check. I left my beloved job and took another awesome one! Thus far I love it and have a huge list of things to accomplish ahead of me… so I’m marking this one as one I will definitely CHECK by the end of the year.

Miscellaneous

More quality time with the boys… major CHECK!

GOLF GOLF GOLF! Failing thus far. I want to be so badly. Time to turn this one around!

Travel a bit. CHECK! I visited Stef in Utah, took a trip to San Fran for work, and have VEGAS just around the corner.

Better skin care. CHECK! I’m doing pretty well in this arena with a somewhat consistent routine, lots of SPF and moisturizer and weekly masks.

So, in a nutshell I’m feeling pretty good about my goal progress! I have a lot of work ahead of me in the ‘goal weight’ department but am up for the challenge.

How are you doing on your resolutions/goals?

When in doubt, blog it out.

Buckle up, my mind is racing and I need to spew some words.

Today was such a weird day. It wasn’t a bad day but I sort of just felt hazy. I mean first of all it was a Monday. On top of that it was Miles’s first day at the daycare at my work. Change is hard. Change can be good, but it’s hard.

I was a bundle of nerves dropping him off. Would he behave? Would he share? Would he nap? Would he eat anything? I won’t bore you with all the answers but overall he had a pretty good day. I was teary when I got to my desk this morning and never really got my bearings all day. I nearly spilled a hot cup of coffee, did spill a cup of kashi at my desk, felt clumsy in general and just anxious all day. It was great to get a few quick updates on Miles throughout the day from his teachers but it was just a long day. Then people were just assholes on my commute home. Hey people, stop being assholes! We would all like to get home alive!

Another topic that has me anxious lately is my bod progress. I blogged a few weeks ago about trying to figure out my diet with my new surroundings and schedule but something must be going wrong because I’m up about 4 lbs. Basically I mostly do good all day and then come home and rage on the pantry. Nothing new, just have to figure it out again.

Running has been lackluster lately too. I can pretty much kiss that sub-25 at the Fish Festival 5K goodbye… which is OK. I definitely haven’t been committed or worked for it so I really don’t deserve it. I did go to a killer spin class at Psycle last Friday and it really reminded me again I love to spin and cycle. I’m contemplating purchasing a pricey (for me) package of classes there.

Despite the prior paragraph I did finally get in a run over 3 miles today. Not by much but it was. It was also the most humid run in a long time. It reminded me of a run last year and I had to dig up the photo just to remind myself how far I’ve come.

Last year…

2011

Today…

Yes, my hair looks good in a rooster hawk, what of it?

Other fun things… I finally got some jeans hemmed and got to wear them today. And some new Sperrys for summmmmah!

Not so fun thing… I shattered my iPhone screen and they want $199 to replace it. Oh hey, that sucks.

What sucks and doesn’t suck about your Monday?
