Let today be the day where I regain a sliver of sanity.

It’s no secret that the past week+ has been rather tough.

Pity party list…
-shattered iPhone screen
-Miles starts daycare for the first time
-Miles doesn’t fit in at a day care (stress and tears ensue… on my part)
-I question my ability as a parent and wonder if I’ve already failed
-Mike attempts to replace shattered iPhone screen and phone is out of commission for several days… feel as if I have lost contact with the world
-Decide to pull Miles out of his daycare and look for one that is a better fit

There were a LOT of tears from me over the past week… what can I say, I cry when I’m hyper emotional.

There was a LOT of decisions and stress in the past week. But we’ve made it. We’re not in a perfect schedule and routine place yet but today was a good day.

End of pity party list…
-Mike finally got my iPhone back in working order… with a new pretty non-shattered screen. +100 husband points!
-Miles starts at a new daycare. Drop off goes well. Comfort level with it being the right place for him is high. Teacher seems great. Get a good midday and end of day report. He’s totally pooped out which means he had a whole lot of fun today. He is officially asleep at 7:57 PM.
-Additional carseat purchased for Mike’s car so that no stress over musical car seat for new daycare.
-Had awesome burgers on the grill courtesy of chef husband.
-Super nice co-worker delivered a large iced coffee to my desk.
-Heard from my 41 week pregnant SIL that all is still well and we will continue to wait for my soon-to-arrive niece.

Thanks for all your nice comments and tweets over the past week. :)

I try to always realize that I live a great life with so many many blessings but sometimes life is still challenging to work through.

So here, on the first day of summer, I declare that the past shitty week can go to hell and yay for summer 2012!

What are you looking forward to this summer?

The one where I question my hair.

I feel like about every 6 months or so I have a blog post about what to do with my hair. Blonde or brunette? Grow it or no?

Well I am definitely settled on growing it back out. Before I even cut it shorter I knew I’d want to grow it back out. Not sure why I didn’t stop myself from cutting it off, but regardless I’m growing it long again.

However my hair color is always up in the air. I actually love the color now. It’s darker than my natural hue but I’m enjoying it.

However I find myself again being drawn to more and more blonde ‘dos while browsing pinterest. Sigh. It’s a tough life.

This one has really been calling to me… I like that it would keep my current brown hue but freshen it up with some auburn-ish highlights. Thoughts?

The downfall is that my stylist who I trust implicitly with my hair color is soon to be on maternity leave and also on limited hours until then and therefore I cannot get an appointment. So perhaps I’m just outta luck for the next few months anyways… which might be a good thing for my rash hair decisions!

Down, but not out.

Well I haven’t really been blogging much over the past week. Truth is, I am avoiding it. I don’t want to put on a sunny disposition in my blog posts when I really am having a tough time. So rather than come here and totally unleash I’ve chosen to just take a hiatus.

I don’t want to go into particulars but the past week has been tough. Yes, things could be worse but I still it’s been tough. I’ve learned again that parenting is the toughest job EVER. Like, EVER.

You know what else I’ve learned? As tough as it is, it is so worth it. I love that little booger more than anything on this earth. I will also do anything I can to look out for his best interests.

Hmmm, what else have you missed out on? Oh yeah… that little Fish Festival 5K from this past weekend!

I only ran once last week but I still headed to my local course to pound out a few miles and see my favorite corntown-gone-cali blogger lady… OUaL. Not only did I get to see her, I also was lucky enough to see her dominate and finish the first female!

I did not run the sub 25 I wanted, but I knew that I wouldn’t. I did still do OK though and ran a 26:40 which is a mere few seconds off my PR from last year and a full minute faster than what I ran at the Fish Festival last year. I’ll take it!

So hopefully I’ll be back on my regular blogging train soon, I hope you have a GREAT week!

When in doubt, blog it out.

Buckle up, my mind is racing and I need to spew some words.

Today was such a weird day. It wasn’t a bad day but I sort of just felt hazy. I mean first of all it was a Monday. On top of that it was Miles’s first day at the daycare at my work. Change is hard. Change can be good, but it’s hard.

I was a bundle of nerves dropping him off. Would he behave? Would he share? Would he nap? Would he eat anything? I won’t bore you with all the answers but overall he had a pretty good day. I was teary when I got to my desk this morning and never really got my bearings all day. I nearly spilled a hot cup of coffee, did spill a cup of kashi at my desk, felt clumsy in general and just anxious all day. It was great to get a few quick updates on Miles throughout the day from his teachers but it was just a long day. Then people were just assholes on my commute home. Hey people, stop being assholes! We would all like to get home alive!

Another topic that has me anxious lately is my bod progress. I blogged a few weeks ago about trying to figure out my diet with my new surroundings and schedule but something must be going wrong because I’m up about 4 lbs. Basically I mostly do good all day and then come home and rage on the pantry. Nothing new, just have to figure it out again.

Running has been lackluster lately too. I can pretty much kiss that sub-25 at the Fish Festival 5K goodbye… which is OK. I definitely haven’t been committed or worked for it so I really don’t deserve it. I did go to a killer spin class at Psycle last Friday and it really reminded me again I love to spin and cycle. I’m contemplating purchasing a pricey (for me) package of classes there.

Despite the prior paragraph I did finally get in a run over 3 miles today. Not by much but it was. It was also the most humid run in a long time. It reminded me of a run last year and I had to dig up the photo just to remind myself how far I’ve come.

Last year…

Today…

Yes, my hair looks good in a rooster hawk, what of it?

Other fun things… I finally got some jeans hemmed and got to wear them today. And some new Sperrys for summmmmah!

Not so fun thing… I shattered my iPhone screen and they want $199 to replace it. Oh hey, that sucks.

What sucks and doesn’t suck about your Monday?

Latest Obsessions.

A few new things I’ve become obsessed with lately. Must share…

tarte cheek stain — this was a last minute impulse buy at Sephora and it is now my favorite tool in my make up bag. It comes in several shades and I’m dubbing it a summer must have!!

$5 cookie greetings from Cheryl & Co — Mike sent me one of these as a little yay fun gift at my new job. You pick a message box and it ships for $5 total. A super fun little hello to send to those you love.

The place I live. Before we had Miles I still loved where I lived but I don’t think I fully appreciated all that is Vermilion. The first two summers we had Miles weren’t as fun since he could ‘do’ a lot. He was a tiny infant the first summer and last summer we did a little more outside but not as much. This summer we are outside every night riding bikes, going to the beach, hitting up the ice cream shops and every single playset in a 5 mile radius. Blogging and working out have taken a serious backseat but I wouldn’t trade that for these sweet summer nights with the boys!

This tip from Iowa Girl Eats on a ridiculously easy way to add volume to flat hair.

OK, I think that’s it for now. Enjoy!
